I saw an interesting post by my friend Gloria who is one of the happiest people I know. She travels the world infusing happiness from her heart and giving freely. She posted a summary from an interview with John Stewart, a Canadian expat living in Kamalaya, Thailand, who owns a holistic wellness resort. Gloria had the opportunity to ask him about happiness and this is what he said: “Happiness is accepting life. And it is really a choice. Because life is going to happen anyway. So it’s your choice to be happy or be sad. There are so many reasons to choose to be sad. But there are just as many … [Read more...]
Your Hands
It's all in how you use your hands – easy for me to say since I feel the state of others via my hands. Once I lay my hands on a person, especially their spine, I can pretty much tell the state of that individual's "tone" or stress. That's what we do as chiropractors. Translate the information we feel through our palpation, which is a learned skill, and translate it into what it means. Recently, I was reading the work of Carrie Barron MD who quoted Immanuel Kant "The hand is the window to the mind." We all know your fingerprint identifies your uniqueness. Barron also said that using our … [Read more...]
Creating Happiness
A couple of months ago I posted a thought on my Twitter feed about spreading happiness. It went like this: "Want to create more happiness? Think of what makes you happy, then smile while around people. Doesn't even need to be at someone." The idea centers on the idea that when we think of something that makes us happy, it places us in an energy rich environment. When we’re in an energy rich environment, things change. I like to visualize it like being in a higher orbit. When we are up high, we can see more of what’s around and below us. Our perspective changes. Being able to see “more” … [Read more...]
Eight Steps Towards Happiness
"Happiness and fulfillment come less from material wealth and more from relationships; less from focusing on ourselves and more from helping others; less from external factors outside our control and more from the way in which we choose to react to what happens to us" We know from research that 90% of happiness comes from our intentional action (thoughts, responses, feelings, and actions), that are under our control. If you’re not ‘there’ meaning "happy," what steps can you take to get you "there"? It’s not about what someone else can do for you; it IS about what you can do for you. Top of … [Read more...]
I’d only be happy if…
If what? What came to mind? If you answered with anything that resembled what someone else should do (change, be nicer, give me more of something) or if you found yourself blaming someone else for your lack of happiness or what you need from the material realm (unless you’re speaking of basic food and shelter) or thinking about happier times in the past, you need to read on and attend the Steps to Happiness: As easy as 1-2-3 teleconference workshop on June 25th. Please interrupt this pattern of thought. Yes, the thought you hear yourself saying: "If only I had (more money, more time, less … [Read more...]
How’s your Happiness?
Happiness is an internal state of joy and contentment, that feeling that life is good. I am not speaking of infatuation or that excited state that we can crash from. Click here and watch this video clip as I talk about happiness and what truly makes us happy. Around 90% of our happiness is dependent on us. Research shows that only 10% of happiness is dependent on life circumstances (your age, social status, location). Of this 90%, it is reported that 40% of our happiness relates to our intentions and actions (which we can control) and 50% is determined by our genetic set point. Hold on, we … [Read more...]
Aren’t You Worth It?
What is the "it" you may be asking? Well, "it" is whatever you think "it" should be. The "it" may be happiness, love, fulfillment, peace and vitality. If "it" is possible for others why is "it" not possible for you, too? Socrates said that "An unexamined life isn't worth living." Well I am unsure that that is fully true, as I've found there are times when I haven't examined my own life for a while...but eventually I do get back to examining it. So when should we examine our lives? Well, ideally on a regular basis, and this is the significance of making time to experience "ourselves". Just … [Read more...]
