With the microscope on bullying these days I am amazed that we forget to ask where does it arise? Where do these children learn these behaviours? What has fostered it in the first place? I remember the schoolyard bullies as a grade schooler in the 1960's. I remember things getting rough for some kids. I have a scratch on my face protecting a certain classmate from a bully in grade 3. I clearly remember both the names of the boy I was sticking up for and the girl who scratched me. She used her nails. But it didn't happen again. Harmony or Balance?
We hear of achieving ‘Balance” and “Life-work balance” but is balance really what we want to achieve? Isn’t balance a fixed word implying no motion? It represents equilibrium, a flat line. Look at scales. What happens when they are balanced? Nature and life exhibit motion, direction and cycles of life so why would we try to achieve something that just has no motion present?
