One of my clients is in real-estate. She is waiting for her ideal client to walk through the door. The problem is that she is doing just that – waiting, sitting by the phone for the magical call.
Success comes to us when we evoke action. Some sort of movement needs to occur. So I asked her what 5 things she could do on her part to stimulate action. She thought of 5, implemented them and quickly found her phone busier.
Do you find yourself waiting for someone to tell you what to do? A boss, a client, a regulator, or an instructor? Are you at cause or effect when you wait? Is your personal power elevated when you wait to take that next step?
The longer you wait, the shorter life becomes.
What are you actually waiting for?
Can you take the bull by the horns and lean into taking action? The book by Sheryl Sandberg asks us to have the will to lead. For heaven’s sake we ought to at least be the leaders of ourselves!
What’s one thing you have been waiting for? Write it down. Perhaps it’s waiting for someone to tell you what to do or you may be waiting for the “right time”.
Frustrating this waiting game, isn’t it?
Do you blame others for the delay?
How are you allowing this to occur?
What is this waiting costing you?
How many other things have you stopped because this one is not happening?
Take the initiative, grow grit, and get into what needs to be done. Use feedback to your advantage to fine-tune. Use your creativity. Stop waiting until perfect. Nothing ever is!
The point is that we need to lean into life to squeeze the juice from it. Life will happen any which way, but do you want to be at the helm steering or at the whim of the wind rudderless?
Often we get stuck in our stuff and cannot see how our behaviour or inaction has led to our current situation. This is where coaching helps. See next week’s blog for action steps!
