“Happiness and fulfillment come less from material wealth and more from relationships; less from focusing on ourselves and more from helping others; less from external factors outside our control and more from the way in which we choose to react to what happens to us”
We know from research that 90% of happiness comes from our intentional action (thoughts, responses, feelings, and actions), that are under our control. If you’re not ‘there’ meaning “happy,” what steps can you take to get you “there”?
It’s not about what someone else can do for you; it IS about what you can do for you.
Top of the list is in addressing where you are (and aren’t) authentic in your life as well as your love – both of self and for others.
But before you do anything, check in with taking responsibility for your current emotion. E + R = O. We cannot change past Events. However through changing our Response to them we can change our Outcome. See my blog post on taking responsibility by changing your response for more details on E + R = O.
You see you cannot lead by focusing on your history, your past. You can only lead by focusing on your vision. So how do you want to feel?
Simple ones are:
1. Write and review your 100 successes – read daily and add to them.
2. Count your blessings.
3. Do something you love that doesn’t cost you anything except perhaps your time.
4. Write three letters appreciating someone – can be alive or to someone deceased.
5. Volunteer with a positive action charity, such as an animal shelter or food bank.
6. Catch yourself, pattern interrupt and reset from anger to choose something different.
7. Watch children playing as a silent observer.
8. Be present with what is, so you can move your energy to something better.
