Last week I wrote about the reasons and excuses we use to not move forward, this week is about overcoming inertia. Yes, it's true, there may be many things to overcome like time, finding quiet space to sit and work, or perhaps it's having the energy to do it. Some recommendations that I use to overcome inertia and get up, out, and Engaged in Life (and may work for you if stuck on the "proverbial couch") are as follows: Plan my day and stick to the plan. Sometimes I plan my day the night before to ensure I am prepared. Build in flex time. This is the time to handle things that will and … [Read more...]
The Couch Potato
Ever pushed a car on a flat road when it's been at rest? The initial push requires a lot of effort but once you've got the car moving, it becomes easier. Quite often it's the same when taking action with something new or different. Recently, while away at a speaking event, I forgot to bring reading material and spent Saturday evening in my hotel room. Being a bit bored I felt like "spacing out" instead of exercising or working. So, I turned on the TV to watch something unmemorable and before I knew it, it was much later than I had planned when I looked at the clock. More than that, it seemed … [Read more...]
“Someday”
I'm reading a book and dissecting the contents with a couple of other well known coaches. As we moved into studying the second chapter, not much really stood out to me, as I am one who commits and follows through on what I say I'm going to do. One word in the chapter did stand out! Yes, one word in the chapter stood out like a thorn in my toe. The word "someday." As I began to think about it I realized I had stumbled upon an opportunity to reset some areas of my life. "Someday" I'll get round to dropping those 10 pounds. "Someday" I’ll go through those old family photo albums with my … [Read more...]
Lead with Your Heart in Your Work
While we passionately care about what we do in our work, unless the receiver gets it--really feels that we care about them--they won’t care enough to make changes. I remember a patient from many years ago. She was not prioritizing her health in any way and was out-of-shape, in pain, and under a lot of stress. I was delivering great chiropractic care and giving her home routines, plus advising strategies for managing her stress: Yet she changed nothing. She'd come in complaining, but not be invested in doing her part. One day I finally had it. Tired of hearing her whine, I asked her how she … [Read more...]
Expressing our Values…
Last week you completed an exercise to uncover your values. Now we'll look at how you can find where they are not being expressed in your life. As well as where they are. Unexpressed values or values which are not compatible with us show up as sensations or feelings in the body. That 6th sense of dis-"ease", feeling weighed down, heaviness, effort, or not being fulfilled. Whereas when our values are expressed we may be working hard but we feel authentic, fulfilled, purposeful in our work. How can we change this... One way is by changing your response to what you do. That way you can … [Read more...]
Change Your Response
What does E+R=O mean? Coined by psychotherapist Robert Resnick, E= event, R= response and O=outcome. Simply, by choosing our response to any event we can change the outcome. Can you change something that has happened in the past? If you do not like the outcome you are currently receiving, then the onus is on you to change how you are responding to it. Responding of course means how you've interpreted the particular "event", in other words, your "thoughts" or "images" or your "behavior" in response to it. All of which are a choice we make. Consider when driving, another motorist blares his … [Read more...]
SOS is the State of Stuck: Limiting Beliefs
Part 2 of 4 Ever been stuck? Like really stuck. Just not able to move forward? I have and I've found it's more often than not related to a number of things.. the last blog looked at Clarity. This one deals with Limiting Beliefs... Limiting beliefs are a tough one because most often they are hidden to us, meaning they are unconscious. If they are unconscious, how can we know what the block is? Techniques are available to recognize our feelings and/or locate tension within the body to help breakthrough this. What works for me is to stop and observe the mental program I am running. I simply … [Read more...]
Are You Doing The Uncomfortable?
Are you doing the uncomfortable, or just coasting? When we are open we grow, when we are coasting we do not. Growth is often uncomfortable; our fear of the unknown, risk, and “what if’s” in the back of our mind. Change is inevitable, and yes, can be uncomfortable. It requires us to face something different. When it comes to staff, peers, or bosses; doing the uncomfortable means fixing the yellow lights before they become red. When we do that, we can achieve success sooner. In my career, I've defended and kept staff even though I know they're not the right fit. I've made excuses to avoid … [Read more...]
Get In The Game
Get in the game. What game? Am I missing something? I am talking about the game of YOUR life. What are you waiting for? The weekend?Retirement? A vacation? I love to live fully, yet I myself get stuck in my stuff and forget the priorities of LIVING in the now. This happens on those days I have not booked "Me Time" in the calendar. Or worse, underestimate the time it will take me to do something. Or I change my schedule with the internal talk of “OK, I’ll do that meditation, QiGong, Visualization, stretching, breathwork, workout, or whatever...later”. Did you notice the "or’s"? Yes, way too … [Read more...]
drLiz’s fabulous organic nut & seed granola – no peanuts, no gluten
Why is this in the Best Version of You? Well, not only are we what we think say and do, we are also what we eat. So when you look at your menu - what are you made up of? Is what you eat life enhancing or "the opposite"? What's your best version constructed by? So here is a great snack or addition to any salad. Remember ounce for ounce, seeds are powerful for their concentrated nutrient punch. You can change up the nuts and seeds with whatever you wish to try but I find this a good combination. Personally I avoid peanuts due to the higher concentration of carcinogenic fungus – aflavotoxin … [Read more...]
